This week meals

Prawn, avocado and chilli pizza. Aldi had some plain pizza bases and so H-G loaded mine with passata, onions and avocado. He had peppers and onions and Baby-G had ham and cheese. Easy and tasty.

Taco Tuesday with the meaty-beany mix I made last week and froze.

Saturday night I made an easy cheats version of Macaroni cheese. I bought pre-made cheese sauce as although I enjoy some meditational stirring of bechemel sauces I was not really in the mood for it today. I also pureed some marinated artichokes to include in the sauce in order to surreptitiously up the vegetable quotient for Baby-G.

Topped with panko breadcrumbs for texture and crunch

Served with cucumber and apple slices on the principle that apple goes with cheese and the crisp crunch offset the rich cheesy sauce really well.

We spent the afternoon watching this DVD

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Kids_and_It

Four children and It. Based on the Jacqueline Wilson book which was itself based on the 1902 book by E Nesbitt.  We all enjoyed it. I was a bit dubious because I loved the original book and sometimes find re-makes a bit pointless. But I enjoyed this alot. It was escapism and fun. Although I kept questioning the parenting skills of the parents in the film – loudly. But it was fun and a good way to spend a cold and windy afternoon. More to the point it held Baby-G’s attention which is this age of Minecraft is unusual.

Film Night Friday: The Jungle Book

It’s cold. It’s winter. What better way to celebrate Friday than with Friday Night film night. Today we have the Disney classic The Jungle Book and Waitrose Indian takeaway.

I found the spinach dal had a slightly odd back taste to it, but the tarka dal was really lovely. Not very spicy, but with a bit of bite from the lentils which were not overcooked or mushy. As a quick and easy Friday night supper it was really not bad at all. Watching The Jungle Book with Baby-Gusto for the first time was fun too. He thought the marching elephants were hysterically funny and gave a very good impression of them- shaking the entire house as he did so.
